As a child, Christmas was agonizingly slow in coming. Do you remember waiting, days dragging ever so slowly? Then it came and went too quickly, with life going back to ordinary. How would you like to wait, knowing that after Christmas all you had to look forward to was your death? Simeon was waiting eagerly for “the consolation of Israel” – God’s Messiah. The Holy Spirit had revealed to him that he would see the Messiah before his death, and now the day had come! How would he give voice to his experience?
