Traditions: we all have them. Perhaps they have to do with how our family celebrates Christmas or Easter, the first day of school or birthdays. Traditions are a way of passing down our family heritage and even our values to our children. In the Christian faith, there are also many traditions that can help us pass down God’s Word and Christian values. But there is always a danger to traditions. When the tradition itself becomes the focus, it loses its meaning. This is traditionalism. There is an important difference between the two. As Jaroslav Pelikan writes: “Tradition is the living faith of dead people; traditionalism is the dead faith of living people."

Scripture:   Mark 7:1-23
