Have you ever heard of churches where there were great divisions? Some members were treated like royalty, others like 2nd-class citizens? Maybe some preferred a certain pastor and left when he did? Some people felt they were smarter, more spiritual, or had better gifts than the next person? Where pride ruled, rather than humility? That was Corinth! Paul preached there for 18 months, after which he corresponded at least four times. In 1 Corinthians, he deals with divisions, which are largely the result of individuals or groups claiming superiority at the expense of others, or flaunting their social status.
