Jesus has been with his Apostles in the Upper Room and they are now moving toward the Garden of Gethsemane. Jesus has brought them into the 4th phase of disciplemaking that evening, calling them to “remain in me” in order to be able to accomplish their ministry. Now Jesus spells out what to expect as they minister without him physically present. It’s going to be a battle, he warns them, on eve of the battle’s beginning. He’s just told them to remain in him and they will be fruitful, to remain in his love to be assured of his presence; and to love each other. Why? Because, he says, “world hates you”!
