What’s in a Name?

Pastor Ed Visser

What’s in a name? Names make a difference. That is especially true in the Bible, where names revealed character. Adam means “earth,” because he was formed from the dust of the ground. A change in names could also symbolize a change in character: Abram (father of one family) became Abraham (father of many nations); Jacob the deceiver General Fund Offerings and Percent of Budget 11/26 11/19 11/12 11/5 Last 4 Wks. $15,321 239% $2,321 37% $3,903 61% $4,368 68% $25,913 101% became Israel the God-wrestler; Simon became Rocky (Peter). But no biblical names are more important than those of our Savior. The Heidelberg Catechism spends two Lord’s Day on the significance of two of his names.
