Jesus Our Jewish Rabbi
•
Pastor Ed Visser
We continue our look at how Jesus might have been seen in his culture, moving from a faith healer (wonderworker) to another title some gave him: Rabbi (Teacher). In Matthew 21-22, we see Jesus at the Temple, overthrowing the moneychangers’ tables, and his authority is questioned. Then he tells some parables, some Pharisees & Sadducees try to trip him up with questions, which causes Jesus to ask questions of his own. It’s pretty familiar, but what’s going on? It’s easy to say that it illustrates that Jesus just didn’t fit in. But in actuality, it tells us just the opposite: for the most part, Jesus fit in his culture pretty well.
