We’ve looked at Joshua and the people of Israel taking possession of the land. They were supposed to become a community that was a blessing to the nations and to live according to God’s Torah, his teaching. But during the time of Judges, they constantly went astray to idolatry. God would raise up a judge to save them from neighboring nations, they’d obey him for while, but then fall away when the judge died; it was an ongoing cycle. Now we are introduced to one of Israel’s last judges, Samuel.
